Capacity enhancement of Chittagong port would lower the cost of business: FBCCI President
FBCCI President Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin made this call at the 1st meeting of FBCCI Standing Committee on Ports & Shipping held on Thursday (January 06, 2022) at FBCCI Icon.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, The FBCCI Chief said, uplifting the capacity of the Chittagong Port would also attract more FDI in Bangladesh. In addition to that, the port would appear to be competitive to tackle the heavier pressure once the Economic zones become fully functional.
He also urges the standing committee to come up with short-, medium- and long-term solutions for the port problems.
FBCCI Vice-President Mr. Md. Amin Helaly emphasizes that, prior to launching new ports, strategic planning should be formulated to avoid existing problems.
Vice President of FBCCI Mr. Md. Habib Ullah Dawn highlights the different charge rates of Mongla and Chittagong port on car imports. Variations in rates of charges of different ports in the same country should not be followed, he added.
The meeting was presided over by the Chairman of the Standing Committee Dr. Md. Pervez Shazzad Akter.
Director-in-Charge Mr. A.M. Mahbub Chowdhury was also present at the meeting.
