Delwar Hossain, PhD is an educator and a leading expert in international affairs. He is
actively engaged in teaching and research in international relations/affairs with special
focus on foreign policy analysis, economic diplomacy, great power politics, security and
strategic analysis, globalization and international development, conflict and risk analysis,
and regional affairs (East Asia, ASEAN, South Asia). He regularly contributes to policy
assessment and opinion issues through national and international print and electronic
media. Dr Delwar is currently serving as Professor of International Relations, University of
Dhaka (, Bangladesh and concurrently the Director of the East Asia Center
(, University of Dhaka. Delwar was the Chair of the Department of
International Relations, University of Dhaka during 2009-2012. Delwar earned his
Bachelor and Master’s degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka,
Bangladesh. He did his second Master’s degree in Asia Pacific International Relations from
International University of Japan (IUJ), Japan as an Asian Development Bank (ADB)
Scholar in 2001. Delwar earned his Ph.D. in global and intercultural studies from Ferris
University in Yokohama, Japan as a Monbukagakusho scholar in 2007. Delwar was a
Visiting Professor to the University of Yamaguchi University, Yamaguchi, Japan during
2017-2019. Delwar received Dean’s Award from International University of Japan during
his study for Master’s program. He also received fellowships from
Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), Ford Foundation, and Japan Foundation. He has
contributed research projects supported by international agencies such as UNDP, CIDA,
USAID, KAS, and Japan Foundation.
