FBCCI to set up Standing Committee to solve problems in Newspaper Sector: FBCCI President

Mr. Md. Jashim Uddin, President of FBCCI said, that the FBCCI is going to set up a Standing Committee of Newspaper Industry to safeguarding its interests.
The FBCCI Chief made this remark in a discussion meeting with Newspapers Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) organized by FBCCI at a city hotel on December 7, 2021. Citing the previous success in bringing tax exemption for local refrigerators manufacturers, FBCCI president assured that the apex trade body will do the same advocacy for Newspaper Industry.
Highlighting the potentials and challenges ahead after LDC graduation, Mr. President informed that FBCCI is initiating to establish an Innovation Center in order to enhance Private Sector Capacity. Already 4 papers have been prepared addressing the challenges in post-LDC period and possible way out, he added.
The president informed the audience that, FBCCI has formed an 18-member advisory panel of experts from various sectors, including eminent economists, to enhance research activities in the apex body of businessmen. The FBCCI Safety Council has been set up to improve the working environment of the factory.
Mr. A. K. Azad, President of NOAB expressed his concern about the rising price of newsprint which has already made the production cost of Newspaper go up. He urges FBCCI to hold talks with government officials for facilitating Newspaper Industry with VAT exemption.
Mr. Matiur Rahman, editor of Daily Prothom Alo, Mr. Mahfuz Anam, editor of The Daily Star, Mr. Shah Hossain Imam, editor of The Financial Express, Mr. Dewan Hanif Mahmud, editor of Banik Barta, Mr. Mozammel Hoque, editor of Daily Korotoa and Mr. Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu, Senior Vice President, Mr M A Razzak Khan, Vice Presidents and Mr. Anwar-ul Alam Chowdhury Parvez and Rezaul Kariem Rejnu, Directors of FBCCI also spoke at the meeting.
After the meeting, FBCCI President Md. Jashim Uddin briefed the journalists.
