The 1st meeting of the FBCCI Standing Committee on Power, Energy, Utilities held at FBCCI Icon on January 19, 2022.
At the meeting, Businessmen have raised their concern over the initiative to increase the gas prices. They said, increasing the gas price would hit the production cost and lower the competitiveness.
The Senior Vice President of FBCCI Mr. Mostofa Azad Chowdhury Babu attended the meeting and said, Bangladesh should take initiative to ensure the best use of coal reserves in the country. He emphasized on expanding Bapex’s gas exploration activities on a large scale.
Mr. Abul Kasem Khan, director-in-charge of the standing committee and director of the FBCCI, said the country’s growing dependence on imports in the energy sector is not safe for the future. It is important to harness domestic resources to ensure long-term energy security and sustain industrialization. He voted in favor of power generation by extracting coal.
The meeting was chaired by Mr. Humayun Rashid, Chairman of the Standing Committee and MD and CEO of Energypac Power Generation Limited.
Among others, also present at the meeting were FBCCI Director Mr. Md. Naser, Committee Co-Chairman Mr. Md. Salauddin Yousuf, Mr. Mohammad Ali Deen, Mr. Nazmul Haque and FBCCI Director Secretary General Mr. Mohammad Mahfuzul Hoque.
