Bangladesh & China Aim to Strengthen Commercial and Legal Ties

A delegation from the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) Yunnan Sub-council visits FBCCI on September 21, 2026, aiming to strengthen bilateral trade ties and deepen legal cooperation between Bangladesh and China. The meeting was attended by key dignitaries from both organizations, including Xu Xianfang, Director of the Legal Affairs Department at CCPIT Yunnan Sub-council; Tan Yun, Deputy Secretary General of the Yunnan Chamber of International Commerce; and Mr. A S M Kamal Uddin and Mr. Sayed Ahmed, Members of the FBCCI Arbitration Tribunal.

During the discussion, the FBCCI Secretary General Mr. Md. Alamgir highlighted the growing economic partnership between the two nations, noting that Bangladesh imports over $18 billion worth of goods from China while exporting roughly $1 billion. He commended China’s vital contributions to key infrastructure developments, such as the Padma Bridge and the Karnaphuli tunnel at Chittagong. While domestic trade disputes are efficiently managed by the FBCCI Arbitration Tribunal, he stressed the importance of building stronger cross-border legal mechanisms to address international trade issues.

In response, Mr. Lei Lin, Director of the Trade and Investment Promotion Department at CCPIT Yunnan Sub-council, extended a formal invitation to FBCCI for the 19th China-South Asia Business Forum and the Commercial Law Cooperation Forum in Kunming. Since Bangladesh holds the rotating chairmanship of the forum, a special country pavilion will be set up to display its top industries, industrial parks, and investment potential. He urged FBCCI to provide promotional resources and finalize delegate details by September 30 to help highlight opportunities for Chinese investors.

Nasreen Begum, Chairman of the FBCCI Arbitration Tribunal, shared insights into the tribunal's framework under Bangladesh's Trade Organizations Rules, which has successfully resolved over 99% of domestic commercial cases. She outlined the tribunal's structured process of evidence evaluation, bilateral mediation, and final arbitral awards. She expressed strong interest in working alongside Chinese legal and arbitration entities to adopt best practices for resolving complex cross-border trade matters.
