Dr. Mostafa Abid Khan is a trade policy analyst and trade negotiator. He began his career in November 1993 as Assistant Chief in Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission and retired in June 2021 as Member, International Cooperation Division. He also served in the Permanent Mission of Bangladesh in Geneva as Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bangladesh as Director general (Trade and Investment), Bangladesh Foreign Trade Institute(BFTI) as Director and acting CEO, WTO Secretariat as Trade Policy Analyst and UNESCAP as Economic Affairs Officer. His areas of expertise are trade policies, trade negotiations, WTO, Regional Trading Arrangement, Generalized System of Preference, Trade Remedy, UNCTAD and LDC, and Graduation issues. During the last 28 years, He was the key negotiator in Bilateral Trade Talks, SAPTA, SAFTA, APTA, Trade Preferential System among OIC Countries, BIMSTEC, FTA, WTO, UNCTAD, Trade and Labor, and LDC plan of Action. He was involved in drafting SAFTA, BIMSTEC FTA, APTA, and SAARC Agreement on Trade in Service, Sustainability Compact, UNCTAD XIV, LDC-specific WTO submissions, and WTO decisions. He attended all WTO Ministerial Conferences since Doha Ministerial as a member of the Bangladesh delegation. He also attended UNCTAD XIII and XIV and a mid-term review of IPoA for LDCs. He participated in 106th International Labor Conference in 2017 and was elected as rapporteur of the Committee on Application of Standard. He also attended a number of SAARC Summits and Heads of the State Level Meetings. He conducted several researches on trade policy, WTO, and RTA and has few publications. He imparted training on various trade issues at home and abroad. He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Moscow Power Engineering Institute. He is blessed with one son and one daughter.
